Welcome to Lead Newark!
We are live with our new application portal. We hope this new application process will be a more streamlined experience for our applicants.
What you can do as an applicant:
- If you have already submitted applications with us on our old application portal on Talent Ed for the 2021-22 school year, you will need to reapply for those positions as we are not able to transfer your application/s over to our new platform. We have also posted many new positions for the 2021-22 school year, which you can apply for in our new application portal as well.
Newark Board of Education has an incredible opportunity to transform the school system into one that ensures that all of its students graduate to succeed in the college or career of their choice.
We need leaders who:
- Believe all students can achieve at high levels
- Grow diverse teams
- Are reflective and actively seek opportunities to grow
- Innovate the previously unthinkable
- Effectively communicate with others
- Treat all people with respect and dignity
- Know their content and get things done
In order to meet our students’ needs, we seek leaders who can drive unprecedented levels of student achievement. NPS leaders must be relentless in their drive to achieve success for all students. In return, NPS empowers principals and vice principals to lead by removing obstacles and providing the resources needed to succeed.
With a highly selective application and screening process, becoming a principal or a vice principal with Newark Board of Education will place you among an elite group of leaders who are transforming lives and communities through their work in leading and transforming schools.
We expect a lot of our principals and vice principals, but we give a lot in turn. Newark leaders have:
Flexibility to drive results
Newark Board of Education empowers leadership to lead by providing the resources needed to succeed. Principals have the flexibility to make decisions on important instructional levers like school planning, budgeting and hiring to meet their goals. Newark’s principals and vice principals have a unique opportunity to participate in change at the ground-level and make decisions based on the needs of their schools and students.
Dedicated support
We understand that every school is different and, as its principal, meeting the unique needs of your school can be difficult in a large bureaucracy. To that end, Newark Board of Education created distinct networks to support a portfolio of schools. Each network is led by an Assistant Superintendent and has an instructional team who provides targeted support on all aspects of teacher quality, and an operational team who provide support for non-instructional issues to principals. Principals work closely with both their Assistant Superintendent and their network staff.
Meaningful professional development
It is only by developing our leadership to do their jobs well that we will see dramatic gains in student achievement. Each month, Newark Board of Education hosts professional development sessions through the Principal Leadership Institute and Vice Principal Leadership Institute that focus on relevant topics for leadership success. Some of the topics covered this year at the PLI and VPLI are: conducting mid-year reviews, communication as a component of transformational leadership, and strategic planning for the hiring season.
